Anastasia Kolesnichenko is a visual artist and photographer from Moscow, Russia. Fascinated by the common objects and materials we come across daily, Anastasia’s creative practice transforms these everyday objects into a visual representation of emotion. By “giving materials a voice”, Anastasia builds her work using everything from flowers to fruit to glassware, working with corresponding colourful backdrops, to evoke an emotion she feels suits the objects and colours she puts together. By creating and photographing her unique abstract displays, Anastasia’s artistic objective is for the viewer to discover a new sense of beauty in the obscurity.

Behind the Work
“Emotion is the central theme in all of my works. “Blush” is shyness turned into a sculpture, reborn through everyday objects. The form of the work, made through wire and fruit, are to convey excitement with their vivid colour, and a bright flower sits atop with a muted background to give both contrast and surprise - much like when someone blushes.”

Behind the Work
“‘Warm” is a combination of senses. This work is inspired by the warmth of a summer day - the feeling of sun on your skin, free and almost sensual. The peach acts as a tactile object, as its peel is soft and velvety, like the touch of the sun. Flowers, like emotions, grow out of the peach, with the polony symbolising flexibility - the idea that soon the sun will set and the seasons will change.”

“Passion that brings us pleasure - the theme of this work. Using sweets to act as an object of pleasure, I used purple and moodier hues to evoke a devious atmosphere. The flower contributes a touch of innocence but the purple is the strong outburst of emotion here - a colour that feels hard to resist.”
