Raphaële Anfré is a painter, fashion designer and pattern maker developing her multidisciplinary practice in Paris. After completing a degree in fashion design, Raphaële sought to transcend her knowledge of shapely pattern and lust for contrasting colourways and translate it to canvas and paper. She eliminates the ‘rights and wrongs’ of traditional art techniques and removes the concept of error in drawing by neglecting the pencil and eraser in her work, applying colour directly. Her artworks meld bright pigment, female sensuality and a bit of humour to create what she often describes as “Erotisme Pudique”, or “Chaste Eroticism”. It is a tribute to the luscious quintessence of womanhood.
“My art is a quest towards womanhood, the type of femininity too often forgotten. And since this journey can be a bit overwhelming at times, I do it with a lot of colour, minimalism, and fun”
Behind the Work
“This painting is part of a series inspired by the illustrious depths of Womanhood, honoring femininity in a way that doesn’t always have to be so blatantly exposed. I want to mask the sensuous elements of femininity behind flowers, leaves and colours to illustrate the importance of seeing further, beyond the female nude.”
Raphaële Anfré, “Féminité Camouflée 4”. 2019. Watercolour on paper. 8 x 8 in. (20 x 20 cm).

Behind the Work
“‘Saint des Seins du Dimanche’ is part of a seven day series of paintings where I painted a different part of the female form each day. It’s inspired by my continuous quest to understand and navigate womanhood. The title means ‘Sunday Holy Boobs’ in French, and the pleasure is most certainly all mine”
