"The Falling III" Print, Florencia Magallanes

from £60.00

Behind the Work

"In “The Falling III” I explore what I call “contradiction dynamics”: opposite ideas that co-exist as part of a whole. The character is stretching, contorted, yet the face is relaxed and almost neutral. I asked one of my friends to pose for this series; she is a yoga instructor and often collaborates with me. Her deep interest in the practice and the occasional chats we have regarding her spirituality inspired me. I enjoy the visual aspects of yoga, the elegant poses and how the basic notions of sculpture come together, the stillness that occurs while so many internal dynamics happen at the same time.

The loose, choppy line and the delicate juxtaposition of textures, intended to be pleasant, are almost controlling the subject while simultaneously deconstructing it, allowing us to choose between antagonist feelings. Is the circle an element of apprehension or liberation? Is the character falling in or falling out? You get to choose while you tilt your head to the side and look deeper."

Florencia Magallanes, “The Falling”. 2020. Digital Drawing.
